Microsoft Exchange is the official university integrated email and calendaring system for all faculty and staff. Exchange offers email calendar invites, scheduling views for multiple calendars, shared calendars, Lync messaging and file transfer, and a minimum 1 GB quota. New faculty and staff automatically receive Exchange mailboxes when they activate their UARK accounts.
See the setup instructions below to configure an email application, such as Outlook for Windows or Mac, or contact your Tech Partner for help. For other Exchange support, call the IT Services Help Desk at 575-2905 or use AskIT to request support online.
Non-faculty and staff eligible for Exchange include:
- Teaching or graduate assistants with access to class rosters and other student information (required)
- Students working with export-controlled data (required)
- Students requesting ADA accommodation
- Students working at the university part time (when required by supervisor)
IT Services supports Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Mac, available to faculty and staff working in units that participate in the Microsoft Campus Agreement. All faculty and staff with or without a license can access Exchange through any browser using Outlook Web App (OWA) at exchange.uark.edu.
Set up Exchange
IT Services supports Outlook for Windows and Mac, OS X Mail, as well as iPhone, iPad and Android email apps for Exchange. When using Exchange on campus, Outlook will autodiscover required email settings. Off campus, you may be required to configure manually.
Download Outlook for Exchange
Outlook is included in Microsoft Office. Installers for Office 2010 (Windows) and Office 2011 (Mac) are available to departments participating in the Microsoft Campus Agreement. Other departments or individuals can purchase Office at http://www.shi.com.
If your department is already participating in the agreement, you can map a drive to download the installers:
- Windows: \\gizmo.uark.edu\dfs
- Mac: smb://gizmo.uark.edu/dfs
After downloading and installing Office, run Windows Update or Software Update (Mac) to ensure all security updates and patches are applied.
Access Exchange on the Web
Outlook Web Access (OWA) is the official web-based access for all Exchange users. OWA is available on any platform through any web browser at exchange.uark.edu.
Request Quota Increase
To request a quota increase, complete the Quota Increase Form.
Submit a UARK Profile PhotoFaculty and staff can submit photos to appear with their user information displayed in Microsoft Outlook and other programs supporting Exchange services. Submit your photo using the UARK Profile Photo Submission form. Departments can also use the submission form to submit multiple user photos in a ZIP file. To request removal of your photo, create an AskIT case.
Request Exchange Accounts for Departmental Use
Sponsored or secondary UARK account Exchange mailboxes can be used by departments to:
- Provide an email point of contact to be maintained over a long period of time, for example, firstname.lastname@example.org
- Ensure continuity and security of departmental communications
- Provide consistency by assigning a sponsored account to temporary/student employees that is managed by the department
To request a new sponsored or secondary account for departmental use, complete the Account Request. To request an Exchange Mailbox for an existing sponsored or secondary account, complete the Exchange Mailbox Request.
Get Exchange Support
To avoid an interruption in general email access, faculty and staff are encouraged to maintain, in addition to their Exchange mailbox, personal off-campus email accounts. UARK email access is contingent on employment, and messages saved in your Exchange mailbox will be purged when you leave the university. For more information, see Leaving the University.
