IT Services Retiring UA Mail, XpressMail

On October 1, 2012, IT Services will permanently retire the email server mail.uark.edu. At that time, all faculty and staff not yet on Exchange will be automatically migrated. Users will be unable to access UA Mail or XpressMail, and all email applications for desktop and mobile, as well as email forwards, will fail when attempting to connect to mail.uark.edu.

The new email and calendaring standard for faculty and staff is Microsoft Exchange at exchange.uark.edu. To move to Exchange before October 1, complete the Exchange Mailbox Request at http://exchangeinfo.uark.edu/request or contact your Tech Partner (http://techarticles.uark.edu/tech_partners/list). Secondary accounts using UA Mail (uamail.uark.edu) or XpressMail (mail.uark.edu) should also be migrated to Exchange using the Exchange Mailbox Request.

Email applications supported by IT Services for connecting to Exchange include Outlook 2010, Outlook 2011 (Mac), OS X Mail, and Windows Mail. IT Services also supports Exchange on some mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, Android, and Windows Phone. Learn more about Exchange at http://exchangeinfo.uark.edu.

Faculty or staff using UARK email in a desktop or mobile application must change their outgoing mail settings using the server and port information provided at http://techarticles.uark.edu/email/email_generic_settings under the Faculty/Staff (Exchange) heading. Technical staff who manage servers or applications that send email using mailhost.uark.edu or mail.uark.edu should contact Walter Green at walterg@uark.edu.

Students are now using UARK Gmail. Information about UARK Gmail and how to set up mobile or desktop email applications is available at http://its.uark.edu/student_email.
