Most official University of Arkansas websites for departments and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) are hosted on Cavern, a Unix server.Department Websites
All department websites at the University of Arkansas are required to follow University Web Guidelines and use the web-based university content management system. For information about a department website, contact your department's webmaster or the office of university relations at 479-575-5555. Visit the Web Developer Resources site for web scripts, code, tool tips, and best practices or the RedDot Resource Center for RedDot support.
WordPress, SharePoint, and Blackboard are also options for presenting material online. Support for faculty to develop online materials is available through the Faculty Technology Center at 575-7401 or ftc@uark.edu.
Registered Student Organization (RSO) Websites
An RSO can request a username and password through the Division of Student Affairs RSO Email and Website Request form.
All RSO websites are hosted on Cavern, a Unix server. Web pages can be uploaded to the server with a web editor, by logging in using SSH, or by mapping a drive. RSO website URLs are http://www.uark.edu/rso/RSOname where "RSOname" is the actual name of the RSO. Vanity DNS is not available for an RSO site.
RSO website restrictions include:
- RSO websites must include the text of the following disclaimer (a link is not sufficient) on the home page, as stated in the Code of Computing Practices, Section III, H, 2, "These materials are not endorsed, approved, sponsored, or provided by or on behalf of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville."
- RSO websites may not use any version of the registered Razorback or university logos.
- RSO websites may refer to themselves as "RSOname at the University of Arkansas" but not "University of Arkansas RSOname."
