emPower, a document management system used for securely storing and retrieving any type of electronic document, is available through a campuswide site license.
With emPower, users can build simple or complex workflows to route documents through various stages of any business process. Web-based forms can be routed through a workflow where users can add text, attach documents, authorize (using a signature password), and perform actions. At each stage, emPower captures data from the form and saves the form image as a PDF.
A sophisticated database search capability and a structured system of managing documents in folders and libraries provide ease in locating and viewing a document in the emPower system. Security restrictions can be applied to control access at any level, providing different users with specific privileges or read-only access within the same library. Access restrictions can also be applied to specific types of documents or groups of folders.
Licenses are required for all users and can be requested by creating an AskIT case and selecting the emPower category. Departments are responsible for purchasing licenses, although IT Services provides some licenses for general use. A formula, based on predicted system usage, calculates the number of licenses required for a group. When a usage pattern emerges, the license fee to the user or department is adjusted.
User ID and Password
emPower requires a user ID and password, which can be requested through AskIT. The user ID and password for emPower are unique and separate from other UARK usernames and passwords. A second, separate signature password allows users to digitally sign forms as they are processed.
