Leaving the University of Arkansas

You are here: HomeUARK Account → Leaving the University of Arkansas

After leaving the university, a student account remains available into the following year, through the first two weeks of the semester. For instance, a student who leaves in the fall semester can use his or her account through the first two weeks of the next year's fall semester. At that time, the account is locked, and two weeks later it is purged. This does not apply to graduates who continue to enroll each semester.

Faculty and staff accounts are purged immediately after termination of employment, or two weeks after the start of the next semester. To avoid inconvenience, non-returning students, faculty, and staff are advised to establish alternate email accounts and back up files. Graduating seniors are encouraged to use an alternate email account when sending out resumes and other correspondence. Retirees and emeritus can contact Carol Hill at the benefits office in human relations to determine eligibility for maintaining a UARK account.

The purging of a UARK account includes deletion of email files and accounts, personal website files, and MyDocs files. In addition, you will no longer be able to access your ISIS or Blackboard services, UA Secure wireless, the computer labs, or UA Chat.

Back Up Your Files

Because your MyDocs files will be deleted, IT Services recommends backing up those files in the General Access Computing Labs (GACLs). MyDocs files are located in your My Documents folder in the GACLs. You can also map a drive and save files from the mapped drive to your computer.

Personal website files on the Comp server can be backed up using secure file transfer software (SSH) for Windows and Mac. See the SSH Tech Article or call the Help Desk at 575-2905.

Back Up Your Email

Prior to your account being terminated, IT Services recommends that you forward your UARK email to an external email account.

To back up any messages that were saved to folders, first move those messages to your Inbox. Use an email application such as Google Mail Fetcher to move your UARK messages to another account. See Gmail Mail Fetcher for instructions.
