Classroom Learning Support
The Faculty Technology Center assists faculty in finding and using effective technological tools to enhance classroom learning. The MMRC staff also works with faculty to support classroom initiatives that involve students using technology. All services are offered free of charge and are available to faculty, staff, and students.
Multimedia Workstations
The production area of the Faculty Technology contains workstations for scanning, multimedia development, video capture, and editing. Users can access equipment and support to create digital audio and video; scan photos, negatives, slides, and large format documents; create and publish web pages; or make and duplicate DVD or CD-ROM materials. Access to production workstations is available on a walk-in basis or by appointment. View the complete list of software available in the Faculty Technology Center.
Blackboard and Course Materials
The Faculty Technology Center also supports Blackboard, the university's learning management system. Live one-on-one Blackboard support can be accessed at 479-575-6804 and Blackboard tutorials are available at bbsupport.uark.edu. Assistance in creating or transferring course content into Blackboard, including text, HTML, Microsoft Word documents, PDFs, video, and audio is available from Faculty Technology Center staff. Faculty can also access Faculty Technology Center support and training to digitize, update, and create stand-alone course materials and presentations.
Lecture Capture and Conferencing
Lecture capture, videoconferencing, and web conferencing are also available through the MMRC. Echo360 can automatically capture class lectures and convert them into podcasts, video, rich media and other formats for playback inside or outside of Blackboard. Faculty are also able to initiate, conduct, or participate in IP-based H.323 videoconferences or use the Access Grid at no cost. Web conferencing is available with Elluminate, which blends synchronous conferencing, instant messaging, polling, and real-time audio and video capture to offer a virtual classroom learning situation or a collaborative meeting.
One-on-One Training
Contact the Faculty Technology Center or the appropriate staff member directly for one-on-one training. When making appointments, please provide information on the scope of the project to ensure the hardware and software is available and that staff members have set aside adequate time to complete the project.
