Campus Managed Print Project
Printing is an essential service that students, faculty and staff rely on daily to be successful in their academic and professional lives.
To improve printing services at the University of Arkansas, a committee of cross-discipline leaders from teams across campus have defined a managed print solution that will provides a modern, consistent and accessible experience for students, faculty and staff at a competitive cost.
Benefits of managed printing include:
- Make it possible for students, faculty and staff to print to the closest printer, regardless of location
- Reduce the number of printer models and toner types in use on campus
- Relieve the burden of supporting and maintaining equipment from departments
- Provide single point-of-contact for printer support regardless of department or location of equipment
- Reduce costs to departments and the campus community at large
- Increase sustainability efforts by reducing wasteful printing
Project Progress
At this time, a managed print pilot is underway to address the increasing cost of supporting more than 1,200 unique printers and toner types in use on campus. The initial pilot is limited to the Athletics Department, J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Human Resources, Business Services and IT Services.
During this phase of the pilot, Canon Solutions is working with campus staff to discover what is currently in use within pilot areas and what is needed to ensure our students, faculty and staff can work effectively and efficiently. As part of the program, a number of existing printers, photocopiers and fax machines will be replaced with new, easy-to-use Canon devices.
The existing pilot is expected to be in place through spring 2019. At that time, results will be analyzed and a plan put in place to move forward with the rest of campus. If you’d like to learn more, contact Paige Francis at paige@uark.edu.
