Out-of-Office Messages

If you plan to be away from your office for a few days, set an out-of-office message.

UARK Gmail (email.uark.edu)

  1. Log into UARK Gmail at email.uark.edu with your UARK username and password.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon on the right, and select Settings.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. In the Vacation responder section, select the "Vacation responder on" radio button.
  5. Enter the start date in the First day field. Enter the end date in the Last day field (optional).
  6. Enter the subject and body of the message. If you have set a personalized signature in your Mail settings, Gmail will automatically include it in your out-of-office message.
  7. Check your desired settings, and click Save Changes.

Exchange Online (outlook.office.com)

  1. Log into Exchange at outlook.office.com with your UARK email address and password.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon on the right and select Automatic replies.
  3. Select the option to "Send automatic replies."
  4. Check the box "Send replies only during this time period."
  5. Enter a Start time and End time.
  6. Enter your out-of-office message in the text editor field.
  7. (Optional) Check the "Send automatic reply messages to senders outside my organization." Enter the out-of-office message to be shown to non-UARK users in the text editor field.
  8. Click OK.

Outlook 2010 and 2013 (Windows)

To leave an out-of-office message for your Exchange mailbox:

  1. Open Outlook. Click the File tab.
  2. Click Info, then click Automatic Replies.
  3. Set your vacation message.

Outlook 2011 and 2016 (Mac)

If Outlook is configured for UARK Gmail, see the UARK Gmail instructions.

To leave an out-of-office message for your Exchange mailbox:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. From the Tools menu, click "Out of Office."
  3. Set your vacation message.

macOS Mail (OS X Mail)

IT Services recommends creating server-side out-of-office messages instead of using OS X Mail.
