Network Access for Windows

If you are having issues connecting to a wired port using Windows, follow the instructions below for computers on the UARK domain or computers outside the UARK domain. For basic instructions on connecting, see Network Access.

Note: You must be logged into your computer as an administrator to perform these steps.

UARK Domain

Note: UARK domain computers require a UARK username and password to log in.

First, enable the Wired AutoConfig service:

  1. Click the Start button. In the Search box, enter "services.msc" and press Enter. Enter your Windows administrator password if prompted.
  2. Click the Standard tab at the bottom.
  3. Scroll down and double-click Wired AutoConfig.
  4. Select Automatic from the Startup type drop-down menu. Click Start.
  5. Close the Services window.

Next, configure your network connection:

  1. Click the Start button and open Control Panel.
  2. Click "Network and Internet." Click "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Change adapter settings."
  3. Right-click the connection and click Properties. Enter your Windows administrator password if prompted.
  4. Click the Authentication tab and check the "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication" box.
  5. In the "Choose a network authentication method" list, select "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)."
  6. Click Settings. Uncheck the "Validate Server Certificate" box.
  7. Click Configure. Check the box. Click OK. Click OK.
  8. In the Local Area Connection Properties window with the Authentication tab open, click Additional Settings. Check the "Specify authentication mode" box and select "User or computer authentication" from the drop-down menu.
  9. Reboot your computer to commit these changes.

UARK domain computers will log into the network automatically.

Outside the UARK Domain

First, enable the Wired AutoConfig service:

  1. Click the Start button. In the Search box, enter "services.msc" and press Enter. Enter your Windows administrator password if prompted.
  2. Click the Standard tab at the bottom.
  3. Scroll down and double-click Wired AutoConfig.
  4. Select Automatic from the Startup type drop-down menu. Click Start.
  5. Close the Services window.

Next, configure your network connection:

  1. Click the Start button and open Control Panel.
  2. Click "Network and Internet." Click "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Change adapter settings."
  3. Right-click the connection and click Properties. Enter your Windows administrator password if prompted.
  4. Click the Authentication tab and check the "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication" box.
  5. In the "Choose a network authentication method" list, select "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)."
  6. Click Settings. Uncheck the "Validate Server Certificate" box.
  7. Click Configure. Uncheck the box. Click OK. Click OK.
  8. In the Local Area Connection Properties window with the Authentication tab open, click Additional Settings. Check the "Specify authentication mode" box and select "User or computer authentication" from the drop-down menu.
  9. Reboot your computer to commit these changes.

When prompted to log into the network, provide your UARK username. Providing your full UARK email address (for example, "username@uark.edu") is not recommended.
