Off-campus Network Access (VPN)
Heads up! Pulse Secure will be retired July 1, 2019. As of spring 2019, GlobalProtect is the supported app for VPN connections.
For faculty and staff who while away from campus, virtual private network (VPN) is essential for accessing on-campus remote desktops, servers or other resources.
VPN is like a tunnel that allows UARK users to access university resources securely, while prohibiting unauthorized incoming traffic. VPN may be required to access certain systems, services or applications, even when the user is on campus.

What’s New in GlobalProtect?
Starting with the rollout of GlobalProtect, the security and network teams are implementing a least-privileged stance for access to university resources. This means that:
- Access is blocked by default and is granted based on business need, using AD security groups.
- Access to any IP or port ranges or devices must be specifically allowed.
- Access to your home or non-university printers, network drives, etc., will be blocked while connected to the VPN. This configuration prevents compromised devices located off-campus from becoming a backdoor to university networks.
